“Even though I couldn’t be there, I’m in a position where I can financially offer support to people who might otherwise not be able to attend. Paying lip service won’t pay bills.”

- C Ford

Reparations, restitution and recognition are at the forefront of what we do. Our programs work on a sliding scale ticketing model.

Slide scale ticketing works for everyone — People who can afford tickets have a way to share their wealth and those who cannot afford the full priced ticket can access it at a more affordable price.

Sliding scale ticketing is about providing access as well as recognising the ways in which First Nations folk and those from the African diaspora have been disproportionately affected by White heteropatriarchy, capitalism and colonialism.

Profit is not our driver — Getting more people involved in our programs is our main focus. Offering a system like sliding tickets frees us to put our energy into achieving other, equally important, objectives.

we are the mainstream is not a charity nor are we a Not-For-Profit. Instead, we seek authentic solidarity from individuals, organisations and businesses who are aligned with Our Values. We welcome the type of financial and in-kind support that is designed to harness the power of collective giving to address economic and racial injustice.

We believe that the redistribution of wealth is an act of justice and mercy. We are informed by principles of decolonising wealth. We believe financial giving is a form of reparations and restitution for those greatest impacted by colonialism, capitalism and patriarchy.

Our approach understands the interconnected nature and responsibility for each others’ growth and existence and offers the opportunity to care for our community by redistributing wealth, without expecting any return.

Supporting we are the mainstream is a genuine show of authentic solidarity with First Nations, Women of Colour and Gender Diverse people of Colour, trusting that funds will be used to elevate and celebrate our causes, for us, by us.

what our solidarity partners are saying

Future Super exists to build a future free from inequality. Fostering strength in diversity is part of the solution to addressing racial inequality within our society, and we know we need to start by addressing this within our own team. As a majority-White leadership, our good intentions can only go so far if we don't also empower and support our team. We sponsored our Women of Colour to attend we are the mainstream's conference to empower them to work with us to make Future Super a better, more accessible workplace. Through strengthening diversity within our team, we hope to be able to better support our employees, our members and the community.

— Kirstin Hunter, Managing Director, Future Super

At Urban Theatre Projects we believe it is urgent that we support diverse voices and diverse audiences to come together.

This is why we have supported we are the mainstream to put together their epic event. It is important that we as an organisation support grassroots projects such as this and we watch in awe as they build their platform. Congrats to the team of all your work so far!!

— Dr Jessica Olivery, CEO & Artistic Director, Urban Theatre Projects

I contributed to the seed funding of we are the mainstream because I benefit from the systems that are set in place.

It isn't enough to privately disagree with a system, particularly when it's one that seeks to reward and elevate you.

Show up, give your time, extend your platform.

Or in this case put your money where your mouth is."

For too long, womens'-only conferences the world over have tried - with good intention and yet insufficient commitment - to integrate minority, First Nations & Gender Diverse delegates as speakers and panel facilitators.

Finally in 2020 there is a conference.

we are the mainstream, has been born to take the radical step to actively exclude majority White Western women. In this ever changing world of political flux, global climate change, poverty, slavery & ongoing systemic oppression of minority women, we need to hear their voices. Amplify them. Hear their ideas, strategies & solutions. And implement them.I was honoured to be rejected from attending this conference for the best reason possible."
